What is Giving Day?
Giving Tuesday is a global day of philanthropy. On this day, people around the world decide to support organizations that matter most to them. We encourage the National Geographic Society community to make a gift and support Explorer-led programs within our five focus areas to drive impact and fulfill our mission of illuminating and protecting our world.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
National Geographic Society is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. EIN 53-0193519. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.
Can I make a gift over the phone?
Yes, you can. Please contact our team at 1-800-373-1717, Monday through Friday from 9:00AM – 5:00PM EST to make a gift over the phone.
Can I make a gift through a stock transfer, will, trust, life insurance policy or other planned gift?
Yes, you can. Please contact our team at 1-800-373-1717 to make us aware of your intent and to receive instructions.
I made my gift online but did not receive a gift receipt
Once you submit your gift online you will receive an automatic acknowledgement on the screen and delivered to the email address you provided when submitting your gift. Often times, the receipt can be found in your Spam or Promotions folder. Please check there first. If you still do not see it, we can certainly provide you with another one.
How will my gift be used?
When you give, 100 percent of your contribution will be used to provide resources for NGS Explorers working in all five focus areas —- Ocean, Land, Wildlife, Human Ingenuity, Human History and Culture.
How can I become a matching supporter?
NGS donors who decide to create matches or challenges make it possible for us to encourage other people to support the National Geographic Society. We welcome your participation as a matching supporter and invite you to contact our Grosvenor Council team at 1-800-373 -1717 or grosvenorcouncil@ngs.org.

The National Geographic Society funds Explorer-led programs that are:
🌊 Protecting our oceans: expeditions led by our Pristine Seas team have resulted in the creation of 25 marine reserves, covering a total area of more than 6.5 million square kilometers.
🐘 Working to preserve wildlife and biodiversity: the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project is working to secure permanent, sustainable protection for the greater Okavango River Basin, in close coordination with local communities; NGOs; and the governments of Angola, Namibia, and Botswana.
🌿 Examining the impact of climate change: through our Perpetual Planet Expeditions partnership with Rolex, we support scientific research spanning the Amazon River Basin to further our understanding of rainforest systems and solutions to protect its future.
